It's Sunday today and I thought I’d give an update!
It’s been over a week now since I actually moved into the university accommodation, Cité International (accom for international students believe it or not), and what a week it has been!
Now let’s start off with how unorganised the university is. It took till Friday for them to provide us with our students cards, which give access to our timetables, WiFi and other important things. This, of course, was rather stressful and a bit depressing really. We’d receive a message saying they were ready at 2, stay at uni all day to find that we should ‘come back tomorrow’. About halfway through the week we realised this was a bit of a joke, and decided to actually enjoy our week and start exploring the island!
On a positive note, the room really is quite nice. I mean it’s basic, just like any uni accommodation, but I was surprised to get a fridge in my room, a large double wardrobe, and an ensuite (hurrah no sharing!). I was also lucky enough to get a room with a view, and a balcony!
Campus itself is also nice and safe. There are gates on either end with security guarding it 24/7, and you use your key cards to get into the actual accommodation building. There’s also a restaurant on campus which eventually my friends and I payed a visit to and tried the ‘3 course’ meal for the ripe price of €3,25. Couldn’t complain really; the portions were good, lots of kidney beans, rice and veg!
Today we decided to have a chilled out day, after our rather strenuous 4 hour hike yesterday, (hyperlink that) and took a stroll to the market. There’s so much choice there and lots of lovely fresh fruit and veg. I found it cool to see herbs and spices stalls dotted about too!
The rest of my day is going to be spent trying to sort out my timetable. The university kindly let you choose your modules however it seems impossible to get a total of 30 ETCs (university credits) without the lectures and classes overlapping, wish me luck!
