October 11th.

Today was a bit of a 'mélange' day. Since I'm staying at Saint-Pierre with my parents all week, we thought it'd be nice to spend the day at the beach here. However after walking over and attempting to withstand the strong winds, we decided to take our car and find a more sheltered beach.

First off: a lovely picture of an Indo-Pacific Portuguese man-of-war. This did scare me a bit as we've all heard lots about these creatures. Found on Saint-Pierre beach.

Fun Fact: its not actually a jellyfish, its a Siphonophora - "a colonial organism composed of small individual animals called zooids that have their own special function for survival".

Our first stop was the beach, l'Étang Salé, a black volcanic sand beach. This was quite exciting to see, not as fun to walk on in the boiling hot midday sun. We decided not to stay here as the swimming area was small and we were on route to Saint-Leu, so decided we'd spend the rest of the day there instead.

Saint-Leu was just as pretty as yesterday, as was the sunset.
