Just over a day into my stay in Réunion and I already have lots to share. Having arrived Monday at midday, I was indeed a walking zombie. The flight lasted just less than 11 hours and although it was an overnight flight, I did struggle a bit to get enough sleep. I was unlucky enough to sit in seat B, and having one person either side of me on a small plane seat is annoying especially when one person needs the loo and the other elbows you when you're just about to nod off into sweet dreams.
Regardless, I did enjoy the landing, not just because it was quite comforting to be back on solid ground but also because flying close to the sea before the plane hit the runway was quite special (something I have only experienced on my flight to Trondheim). Walking out of the airport was really cool too though. I was greeted by the stunning sights of mountains, covered in green and little houses dotted about. It felt bizarre to think people live here and experience these sights everyday of their life. And the mountains just seem so cool especially when you compare it to flat Norfolk.
Despite being mega tired, I decided not to waste the day too much, so I went on the hunt for some food. Now this proved to be more difficult than I thought. But eventually I found a supermarket and bought some snacks and food for tea. There was a lot of choice, basically all I desire in carbs and veg, and the prices were pretty much the same as the UK.
I've also noticed from my little walks round the area that the wildlife here is different, which I knew was a given, but I wasn't expecting to see what I am pretty certain was a racoon (but ofc could be wrong) walking by. The pigeons here are also smaller and the other birds are very pretty (I'm a bird lover you'll come to realise).
There is also some funky and impressive graffiti going on here too! (Moufia is the name of the neighbourhood).
And lastly, the climate. It is just as I'd expected, 25 degrees, lovely and warm but with a super strong breeze. This weather is ideal!
Until next time xx
