Saint-Gilles

A trip to Boucan Canot to find the weather miserable led me to walk along the beach for 40mins or so to Saint-Gilles. This is one of the well-known locations for nightlife, shops, boat trips and home to its own aquarium.

When I arrived I was greeted by it's small harbour and some whales in the distance! It is whale season after all. I decided to take a walk around to soak in the scenery, and then I visited the aquarium. For €9, personally this kept me amused for quite a while. I love aquariums and it was interesting to learn about the species that lie in the seas around Réunion. It was also interesting to learn more about the shark species and dolphins and whales too.

Overall, however, I feel Saint-Gilles hasn't got much going on, aside from the ability to go on boat trips and its aqarium. It's quite small and quaint but the beach isn't that stunning, with only a small netted area to paddle, and the busses from Saint Denis means you either have to walk from Boucan Canot (ligne O2) or take two busses (ligne O2/O3/O4 and ligne S4).
